Is Hello Kitty Party Land Free to Download?

Searching for a Hello Kitty Party Land free download? The full game costs $49.99 digitally on Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2, so getting into Party Land requires a purchase. There is a free launch update with character costumes, giving you something extra to download once you own the game.

Hello Kitty Party Land launched on October 29, 2026. Both physical and digital versions are available, and the free costume update works with either format.

The distinction matters: the launch costumes are an addition to the paid game. Downloading that update does not give you the base game.

Choose Your Switch Version Before Buying

The Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 releases are separate purchases. Both digital versions have the same regular U.S. price, but their download sizes differ.

Digital versionRegular U.S. priceGame file size
Nintendo Switch$49.993.1 GB
Nintendo Switch 2$49.993 GB

The Nintendo Switch 2 version runs exclusively on Nintendo Switch 2. There is no Nintendo Switch 2 Edition upgrade pack for the Nintendo Switch version, and save data cannot be shared between the two versions.

Choose carefully if you own both systems. Plan which version you want to keep playing before starting, since you cannot transfer that save between these releases.

To buy and download digitally:

  1. Open the Nintendo Switch game page or the Nintendo Switch 2 game page.
  2. Check the platform name before completing your purchase.
  3. Purchase the digital edition to have it sent automatically to your system.

Allow additional storage space for update data beyond the base download.

How to Get the Free Launch Costumes

The October 29 launch update adds jinbei-style costumes for My Melody, Hangyodon, and Chococat. You get them by updating the game software.

To install them:

  1. Connect your Nintendo Switch or Nintendo Switch 2 to the internet.
  2. Insert your game card if you own the physical version, or have the digital version installed.
  3. Update the software to the latest version.

The costumes install automatically with the update. An internet connection and sufficient storage space are required.

There is also a separate Character T-Shirt early purchase bonus. That item uses a download code redeemed through Nintendo eShop; it is different from the costumes delivered automatically through the launch update. Once you have the shirt, you can apply collected stickers to it through the Sticker Book.

What Comes With the Base Game?

Party Land combines 45+ minigames, cooperative board games, avatar customization, and activities around Hometown. You can meet over 145 Sanrio characters and collect their stickers, while choosing from 16 playable Sanrio characters as teammates.

Board Game mode has three boards with different shared goals:

  • Blooming Flower Festival: Gather flowers for Marroncream’s festival.
  • Tropical Twilight: Collect droplets to help Tiran and friends grow fruit.
  • Sparkling Neon Night: Gather sparks to power Goropikadon’s performance.

Petit Games give individual players something to do during other players’ turns. Finish yours before your next turn arrives: an unfinished Petit Game causes that turn to be skipped.

Away from the boards, you can shop for clothing, take photos, create music with Melody Cake, and design pictures at the Poster Studio. Earned coins pay for merchandise at the Shopping Mall, while appearance changes at the Make-Up Salon are free.

Do You Need Nintendo Switch Online?

You can play with up to four players on one console. Online sessions support two to four players and require a paid Nintendo Switch Online membership, a Nintendo Account, and internet access.

Online play is limited to registered friends. One player creates a room, and the others select Search for Room to join. The host can also set a four-digit password.

Pick your host before gathering everyone: that player controls menu selections, entering and leaving buildings, starting activities, and pausing the game. For an online session, have everyone add each other as friends before opening the room.
