How Many Characters Can You Play?

The Hello Kitty Party Land characters include 16 playable Sanrio partners, with over 145 characters to meet across the game. Choosing a partner gives you a companion for exploring Hometown and playing together. Spending time with characters also builds friendships that can reward you with special clothing.

You can play as your custom avatar or your Sanrio teammate. Your avatar has its own appearance options, including eyes, hair, eyebrows, and skin tone, while the partner system lets you bring a favorite character along for the activities.

The larger cast also gives you characters to talk to, board-game objectives to complete, and stickers to collect.

How to Unlock Badtz-Maru and Change Partners

Play Blooming Flower Festival to make Badtz-Maru available as a partner. Start this board game by talking to the receptionist at the center of the Game Park.

Blooming Flower Festival sends you out to collect flowers for Marroncream’s festival. Keep its character unlock in mind when choosing which board to try.

You select an initial partner during setup before entering Party Land. To switch companions afterward:

1. Go to the Photo Studio.
2. Enter the Partner Room.
3. Change your partner there.

You can view your available partner characters through the Partner menu on the Game Pad. This menu also lets you equip special clothing you have received.

Your avatar’s appearance has a separate location: the Make-Up Salon on the Shopping Mall’s third floor. Appearance changes there are free, so visit it when you want a different look for photos with your companion.

Build Friendships for Special Clothing

Friendship grows a little each time you play or chat with a character. The stars above each character in the Partner menu show their friendship level.

Talk to your companions between activities and keep playing with them to raise those levels. Higher friendship can reward you with special clothing sets, giving you another reason to spend time with your favorites.

To access a friendship clothing set:

1. Open the Game Pad.
2. Choose the Partner menu.
3. Navigate to Friends.
4. Select the set.

For regular outfit changes, use the Game Pad’s Clothing menu. You can also save up to eight favorite clothing combinations, making it easier to return to an outfit you like before visiting the Photo Studio.

Meet Characters Through Board Games and Stickers

Some characters give each board game its purpose. You work together to gather the resources they need rather than simply racing around the map.

Outside the boards, talking with characters and playing minigames earns stickers. Open the Sticker Book and move the cursor over a collected sticker to see its name.

Visit the Minigame Corner at the Game Park’s rightmost counter and look for present icons: these mark opportunities to meet someone new. Blue present icons point toward special sticker rewards associated with clearing every difficulty level.

If you own the Character T-Shirt early purchase bonus, you can also apply collected stickers to it through the Sticker Book. Redeem its download code in Nintendo eShop before using that clothing item.

Get the Launch Costumes for Three Characters

The October 29, 2026 launch update adds jinbei-style costumes for:

• My Melody
• Hangyodon
• Chococat

These are outfits for the named characters. To install them, connect your Nintendo Switch or Nintendo Switch 2 to the internet and update the game to the latest software version.

For a physical copy, insert the game card before updating. For a digital copy, keep the game installed. The costumes install automatically with the update, and downloading requires enough free space in system memory or on a microSD card.
